If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.
—John Quincy Adams
Strong leadership drives ortho practice success. However, becoming an effective leader can mean walking a difficult path. Orthodontists receive no leadership training in dental school. In fact, most do not receive leadership training at any point in their career. Consequently, leadership poses one of the most complex challenges for orthodontists.
Business leadership is challenging, ortho leadership doubly so. Unlike leaders in other business fields, orthodontists have the burden of not only owning and operating the practice, but also being the main producer all day, every day. Given this challenge, understanding and implementing clear methods of leadership in the ortho practice is critical not only to lowering doctor stress but also to effective teamwork.
