Avoid the destructive power of saying “No.” When you tell parents and patients “no,” all they hear is that you aren’t interested in helping them. Instead of saying, “No, we can’t see you on Tuesday,” respond with: “I’m sorry, we are completely booked on Tuesday. Will Thursday work for you?” This allows you to focus on what is possible versus what isn’t.
