Why don’t people accept treatment? One of the main reasons is that patients reject treatment is their availability. People seem to be busier than ever and often feel that they can either put off treatment or ignore certain needs until they have time available—which rarely seems to occur. Furthermore, it doesn’t take long following a case presentation for patients to simply lose motivation and forget about treatment altogether. Solutions for this include asking patients what day and time they would prefer to have treatment; offering late week appointments so they have the weekend to recover and feel that they won’t miss much work; and, when appropriate, reassuring patients about recovery being better and easier than they might expect. When these strategies are all built into the scripting of the case presentation system, annual cases acceptance will increase.
