Every new patient in the practice should be educated about dental insurance if they have a plan. The education should be focused on helping them understand that they don’t have 100% coverage for all dental procedures, why dental insurance doesn’t cover certain procedures, and how they have a maximum that limits the amount of reimbursement that can be acquired each year. The practice wants to reframe the understanding of dental insurance for the patient long before they present cases and then have to explain at the end why coverage is not what was expected.
